TPSnewsflash BE04-0027:
Form 5500 Extended Filing Deadline Approaching for Calendar Year-End Plans
As communicated to clients back in July, pension and welfare benefit plans generally are required to file an annual return/report regarding their financial condition, investments, and operations. Filing the Form 5500 Annual Return/Report for Employee Benefit Plans and any required attachments generally satisfies the annual reporting requirement.
The initial filing deadline was July 31, 2004 for calendar year-end plans.
At that time, if you had not received a Form 5500 for signing from us, our specialists automatically filed for a 2-1/2 month extension—making Friday, October 15, 2004 the extended filing deadline for your plan.
Please note if the Form 5500 is filed beyond the extended deadline mentioned above, there is a $25-a-day fine imposed, up to a maximum of $15,000 paid to the IRS.
In the event you have already filed your form 5500, no further action needs to be taken at this time.
